Greetings, People of the world!

Here's my last blog post for GSoC'2020. It has been an amazing journey. Full of learning and excitement every day. Here's a bit about the last week.

1. What did I do this week?

No I did not! I was a fun last week.

GSoC has been an amazing experience. I am really grateful to be a part of this. To anyone reading this if you are a GSoC aspirant, I'd say that just start started and you will reach great heights. Greetings, People of the world!

The last week of coding phase was easy, kinda fun but emotional since its like something really amazing is coming to an end. Though will always stay a part of this community but the GSOC experience is something full of thrill and excitement at every moment.

1. What did I do this week?

Built a few animated icons and they are now available on https://icons.eosdesignsystem.com/ To anyone who might go and check them out, Do try editing them too according to how you need them.

2. What is coming up next?

Wrapping things up and looking forward to add more animated icons to the animated icon set. And any final changes or updates that my mentors will suggest.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Nope! It was a simple easy week. Was fun. Ahh! gonna miss this experience!!!

Greetings, People of the world!

It was the second last week and I pushed my last piece of code.Not sure how to tell how it felt but it was exciting and it was sad. Exciting because I did feel like I accomplished something this summer when I pushed my last piece of code but I felt sad that this program is coming to it last stage. Well, there's still a week left. I am gonna make the most out of it (By making icons tho ).

1. What did you do this week?

I worked on adding a new feature as suggested by my mentors and pushed the final code for that feature on the weekend. As per this feature, each icon gets a sharable URL and the user can copy and share the URL and anyone who follows that URL will be directed to redirected to EOS icons cheat-sheet and the Icon for which the URL was shared will be highlighted. I also started making animated icons.

2. What is coming up next?

This week I will add as many animated icons as possible to the existing icons pack.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes I was a bit confused about what should I do, give each icon a unique sharable URL in real time or make a button to share the icon. After consulting my mentors We decided about the first option and then it all happened with ease.

Greetings, People of the world!

Last phase for choosing has begun! I'm super excited about completing the project.

1. What did you do this week?

This week I added customization feature for animated icons. And with this icon customization is complete! Though I'll be adding a few additional features which will be like a cherry on the cake.😉

2. What is coming up next?

This week I will be working on adding a new feature as suggested by my mentors. There will be a sharable URL for each icon which when followed by a user will take them to the cheatsheet and that icon will be highlighted.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes i did. There was an issue with previewing the animated icons while editing. Majorly the problem was with showing live changes in the preview while editing. My mentors help me with this and we got amazing result!

Got a little late posting this blog. Was stuck with a couple of things but didn't let that prevent me from coding.

1. What did you do this week?

So last week I worked on adding preview option that enabled user to preview all customized icons on the modal when multiple icons are customized. Along with this I made a couple of other changes in the icon editor modal according to the suggestions and inputs from my teammates and mentors.

2. What is coming up next?

This week I will be working on adding customization feature for animated icons and begin with making a couple of animated icons too.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

No I did not. things are going pretty smooth now on.

This was last week before the second evaluation and this week has also been amazing.

1. What did you do this week?

This week, I worked on a change my mentors suggested. Earlier when a user downloaded a customized icon, a zip file was created when it is downloaded. So as per suggestion I will be making changes so the icon is downloaded directly in the image format selected. This was for the single icons. Later I also added the feature to customize multiple icons. And now a user can customize and download multiple icons . The customization remains same for all icons. I also made a couple of animated icons.

2. What is coming up next?

This week I will work on adding preview option to preview all customized icons on the modal when multiple icons are customized. And then I plan to begin with animated icon customization support. Means after that feature, customization will be available for animated icons too.

Greetings, People of the world!

This week was full of learning. Like seriously I learnt a lot this week specially because I got stuck on something which took me while to figure out.

1. What did you do this week?

This week I added the feature to download customized single icon in PNG format. Along with the image format, the user can also select different sizes of the customized PNG after this feature.

2. What is coming up next?

This week, I will be working on a change my mentors suggested. Right now when a user downloads a customized icon, a zip file is created when it is downloaded. So as per suggestion I will be making changes so the icon is downloaded directly in the image format selected.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes like I said earlier, I did. The problem was with the icons picker API. The async behaviour was causing a problem when I was making png files from svg and zipping them. But eventually after a lot of researching and trying out different ways it was solved

First week after our first evaluation was nice. I tried speeding up things. It's been an amazing week.

1. What did you do this week?

This week I added the feature to rotate an icon as well as to flip an icon as a part of customization. Thus now a user can rotate, flip or change colour of an icon according to their requirement. The customized icon are available to be downloaded as SVG only as of now.

2. What is coming up next?

This week, I will be add the feature to download these customized icons as PNG and along with it I will try to get started with multiple icon customization too.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Nope, not this week

Greeting, People of the world!

Our first evaluation took place last week and guess what? I passed it!!! Well, I am pretty excited and happy about it.

1. What did you do this week?

I built the modal for colour customization for a single icon and did little edits here and there. Now it works perfectly.

2. What is coming up next?

This week, I will be implementing logic for icon rotation in icons picker API and also added buttons for rotation on the icons editing Modal.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes, a little when a few icons were not getting customized. Well, it was because of their SVG file having a style tag. This issue was resolved with the help of my mentors.

Greetings, People of the world!

Fourth week of GSOC was slightly different than what I wanted it to be like. My struggle with a stable internet connection and area lockdown due to COVID19 precautionary measures were just too overwhelming , Though its been a while with this struggle but things were at a peak this week and I couldnt make a PR until saturday when things calmed a little. And that was a slight relief.

1. What did you do this week?

This week I added colour customization and SVG download after customisation feature in the Icons picker API. Along with this I got all the use cases reviewed so I can start working on the features on a better planned manner. I wanted to added more features but things around weren't going as planned.

2. What is coming up next?

This week I will first complete the Front end for the previously added customisation feature in icons picker API and then work on adding flip and rotate on the APi and build the Front end for the same simultaneously.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes I did but, I got stuck with things around me rather than getting stuck with anything related to GSOC. Though I will try to give my best, now that I feel I really need to push my limits and not let anything affect my GSOC journey.

Greetings, People of the world!

1. What did you do this week?

This week I worked on adding download feature on the EOS icons Landing. This download feature enables the user to download a single icon in SVG or PNG format for regular icons and SVG format for animated icons.

2. What is coming up next?

I have planned to give different user flows to the mentors, so we finalise a few features, and then I will work on building their logic on the icon picker API.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes, I did, When my code for downloading of the icons was merged in the icon picker API, some application error kept on popping up on the live website. I was able to resolve this issue after checking the logs from Heroku and realising that a folder that I was using to get the icons downloaded didn't exist there. So things eventually worked out.

The second week of the coding period ended this Sunday.

1. What did you do this week?

This week, my UI got a positive response, and I was given a green signal to get started with working on it. I discussed with one of my mentors, and we planned that I should also start working on the main customisation part of the project. I added the basic logic for icon customisation in the Icons picker API.

2. What is coming up next?

I will be adding more icon customisation features like flip and rotate and also get the customisation to work for animated icons too. Along with this, I have to work on planning a couple of use cases for planning the whole multiple icon customisation flow for animated icons.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes, I did, while planning the flow for multiple icon customisation. But then things got clear for static icons, and I will be planning fo animated icons this week.

Coding period for Gsoc 2020 started last week, and it has been as incredible as I imagined.

1. What did you do this week?

I worked on improvising the UI for the project on adobe XD keeping in mind that all the required features perfectly fit in. With a lot of possible ways of how to accomplish the desired features, I planned out the best possible ways to achieve that keeping in mind all the potential Use cases for the project after receiving valuable insights from the mentors.

2. What is coming up next?

I will be working on adding basic logic for icon customisation in the Icons picker API that is currently being used.

3. Did you get stuck anywhere?

Yes, I did, I was confused about where to place the components for multiple icon customisation features. And if I should use the icon picker for customisation of multiple icons since it was already built and will make it feasible to select desired icons before customisation. The placement of components was a bit confusing since a lot of components were required to be added in a small space. But eventually, it was done with the suggestions from the mentors.

Greetings, People of the world!

I am Shashank, and I will be working with the EOS design system this summer. EOS-icons deliver a set of icons in an iconic font and also provides a few animated icons. For developers working on products like plugins or executable files, it is more efficient to be able to get a .PNG or .SVG of the icon in any colour or size. My project aims to solve this problem by creating an Icon Customization tool that enables a user to download icons in any colour and size with additional customisations as well as to add more animated icons to the current set.

So far, I have been trying to understand the codebase better as well as learning about the technologies and packages I will be using. I also created a couple of animated icons after learning how to animated SVG icons using SMIL. Community bonding period was incredible, and I am excited now that the coding officially begins.

I will be working on improving my projects UI with the ideas from the mentors and will be making the required changes in this first week of GSOC 2020.

For the next 12 weeks, I will be writing weekly blogs, keeping you all updated with my journey.
